From ‘React and Respond’ to ‘Predict and Prevent’: Motorola Solutions Mobilizes Critical Intelligence for Safer Cities at Interpol World 2015

Singapore, 14 April 2015 – Motorola Solutions Inc. (NYSE: MSI) presents technological advances to change the way cities respond to global safety challenges at INTERPOL World’s Safe Cities Congress 2015. Developed with an expert panel of industry leaders, the solutions presented will chart an innovation roadmap to strengthen global security.

“Forums such as INTERPOL World serve as fertile ground for fostering the development of versatile solutions for mission critical organisations to help them to  adapt to the most demanding of situations. Our ability to extract and operationalize critical intelligence from immediate raw data will transform the way public safety and security organisations leverage information for effective and swift responses,” said Peter Goulding, Public Safety Specialist, Motorola Solutions.

According to the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat), more than 60% of the world’s population is expected to be urban by 2030 which is likely to increase the strain on critical infrastructure. This is an important contributing factor to urban poverty and which might lead to a rise in crime rates. Across the globe, with debt-to-GDP ratios almost doubling in the past 5 years, public services will have to strike a delicate balancing act, coping with limited resources while policing increasingly complex criminal activity.

Therefore, the single greatest advantage to public safety organisations, is the ability to operationalize data like never before, employing everything from public safety sensor networks, to city-wide video surveillance, and social media. With the innovations presented by Motorola Solutions, vast volumes of data can be aggregated and operationalized, and threats can be identified in advance, guiding personnel on the ground and preventing events from becoming major incidents. The product of this strategic partnership between Motorola Solutions and industry experts, demonstrates the capability to integrate real-time surveillance and data analytics to refine predictive policing, which is an emerging trend amongst public safety departments across the globe.

This is showcased through Motorola Solutions’ presence at INTERPOL World 2015 which incorporates a complete technology immersion where participants will be able to experience this technology first-hand at four interactive zones, featuring live demonstrations of intelligence-led decision making, integrated command and control, connected first responder solutions and mobile incident command operations:

  • Turning Data into Intelligence: Visitors can observe how data analysis enables intelligence agencies to be better prepared to anticipate threats, make intelligent predictions, offer more targeted counteractions and plan optimal strategies.
  • One Unified Operating Picture: The demonstrations will also run command centre simulations for a glimpse into how command operations scale in an instant from local, multi-agency response to mass coordination across every level of government with one unified, real-time operating picture, for responses that are both efficient and prompt.
  • Mobilizing Intelligence: Visitors can experience first-hand how next generation responder communications are mobilizing intelligence, delivered through intuitive human-computer interfaces and augmenting an officers’ capability to deal with issues when in the field.
  • Eliminating Blind-spots: Motorola Solutions is also showcasing next generation vehicle communications, which are providing updated real time intelligence and information thereby increasing in-field situational awareness and tactical collaboration as well as enabling mobile incident command operations for planned and unplanned events.
“Leveraging our expertise in mission-critical communications technology and global perspective on urban security issues, we aim to change the way public safety services around the globe respond to threats and incidents,” said Balbir Singh, Vice President, Asia, Motorola Solutions. “Be it acts of terrorism, accidents, or natural disasters, we want to help drive that shift from ‘React and Respond’ to ‘Predict and Prevent’, and pave the way for precise, intelligence-driven strategies.”
