BASKING RIDGE, N.J. and SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Feb. 23, 2011 – Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) and Verizon Wireless today announced an alliance to bring all the advantages of an advanced wireless communication solution to public safety customers across the U.S. This first-of-its-kind solution combines a private public safety-controlled broadband network tailored for mission critical operations with the benefits of the most extensive and reliable commercial networks in the country.
As a result of this alliance, public safety agencies may benefit from economies of scale and optimized network design that can be customized for their requirements. The alliance allows agencies to supplement their mission critical core platforms with the rich media services, and the increased capacity and coverage of Verizon Wireless’ LTE network.
- This solution offers public safety agencies access to real-time management and control, enhanced nationwide roaming, and site sharing of existing mobile broadband sites for rapid deployment and economies of scale.
- Motorola and Verizon Wireless are committed to providing agencies with the flexibility to select the business model most suitable for supporting the deployment and management costs of their Public Safety LTE networks.
- The solution leverages Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network – the fastest, most advanced 4G mobile network in America, providing data speeds up to 10 times faster than its 3G network – 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink in real world, fully-loaded network environments.
- Motorola is driving the industry’s most comprehensive next generation public safety communications plan. Leveraging standards-based LTE, Public Safety LTE networks deliver the priority, security and control demanded in critical operations while integrating with mission critical voice and public carrier networks for unprecedented public safety capabilities.

“Verizon Wireless’ advanced wireless networks will complement Motorola’s private network solution to help public safety agencies run their operations more efficiently and effectively. The advanced capabilities of 4G LTE, which Verizon Wireless is aggressively deploying across the United States, will allow agencies to leverage more applications and rich media services that were previously unavailable or too cost-prohibitive to implement in a wireless environment. 4G LTE brings a true mobile broadband experience to these public safety agencies – and allows them to do the same type of work inside a police cruiser as they currently do in an office.”
