Jan. 24, 2011 – SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Motorola Solutions Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Motorola Solutions, today announced a $100,000 grant to U.S. President Barack Obama’s “100,000 Strong Initiative.” Through the grant, Chicago Public School students will have a chance to study in China, giving Chicago students an edge as they begin thinking about business careers and further strengthening Chicago's role as a partner with China.
The 100,000 Strong Initiative aims to increase significantly the number of Americans who have the opportunity to study in China, in an effort to both prepare young people to succeed in the modern global economy and strengthen U.S.-China ties.
Students representing a variety of Chicago neighborhoods will get the opportunity to learn side-by-side with Chinese students, fostering a sense of understanding and camaraderie.
The program will be implemented in partnership with the Children First Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Chicago Public Schools.
In 2006, the Motorola Foundation provided a grant to the Chicago Public Schools Chinese Connections Program to fund opportunities for Chicago students to study abroad in China.
