TIME magazine features technology high schools that get students jobs

The cover story of TIME magazine’s Feb. 24, 2014 edition focused on the success and future of a new model for a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) school, also known as a Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-Tech school). The article recognized Motorola Solutions as a supporter of a P-Tech style school, Chicago Vocational Career Academy (CVCA). P-Tech schools are designed to give students a high school education and the skills needed to get a job in the growing technology economy.

The Motorola Solutions Foundation supports CVCA as part of its worldwide effort to improve STEM education. In 2013, the Foundation contributed $6.1 million toward high-quality STEM education programming, providing 170,000 teachers and students each with more than 80 hours of hands-on learning.

“The heart of our success lies in the Motorola Solutions employees who spend thousands of hours of their time to make sure these programs, and the students they help, are a success. And, we know jobs in the tech sector will grow at a faster rate than the economy overall,” said Matt Blakely, Director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “So a school like CVCA will give young people a step up into careers that not only pay well, but also have a bright future.”
